Maintenance Worker - Golf Course

JOB SUMMARY

The golf course maintenance worker, under the supervision of the golf course superintendent or assistant golf course superintendent, is responsible for the upkeep and appearance of the golf course, ensuring it provides optimal playing conditions. This involves tasks from basic groundskeeping and landscaping to operating specialized equipment and performing minor repairs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • General Landscaping duties, mowing, trimming, edging, and maintaining greens, tees, fairways, and rough.
  • Bunker maintenance, raking, trimming, and grooming sand bunkers.
  • Irrigation and watering: hand-watering turf, ensuring proper irrigation, and maintaining sprinkler systems.
  • Safely operates various types of golf course maintenance equipment, including, mowers, tractors, and other tools.
  • Pest and disease control: spotting and reporting issues like fungus and insects, and potentially assisting with pesticide and fertilizer application.
  • Equipment maintenance: performing basic maintenance on equipment, such as refueling, cleaning, and reporting issues.
  • Turf Management: preparing and planting sod and seed, repairing turf using patches or reseeding.
  • Special projects: assisting with construction and maintenance projects, like installing signs, working on irrigation systems, and clearing trees and brush.
  • Other Duties: removing debris, mulching, weeding, and other general groundskeeping tasks.
  • Guest Relations: Ensuring a pleasant experience for golfers by maintaining the course's appearance and reporting any issues.
  • General safety procedures followed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED; and
  • At least three (3) years’ heavy equipment operation experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Special Requirements:

  • May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide technician.
  • May require a CDL

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and goals of the City of Page and the department.
  • Knowledge of Lake Powell National Golf Course Rules and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of agronomy, turfgrass science, and basic golf rules & etiquette.
  • Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in golf course maintenance and construction.
  • Skill in the safe and lawful operation of all required equipment.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with co-workers, other City staff and the public.
  • Ability to work well and communicate with all levels of personnel and the general public.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the functions of the position.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions from others.
  • Ability to resolve problems.
  • Ability to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, precipitation, and wind.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to lift, push, pull or carry up to 75 pounds, sit, stand, walk, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces, kneel, squat, stoop, bend, reach, turn, climb, crawl, listen, and use hands and fingers. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions. The employee is also required to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
