Teen Program Librarian

Department: 444 Library
Location: PAGE, AZ

JOB SUMMARY

The Teen Librarian will provide library service and programming to children and young adults and assist patrons in finding materials.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide excellent customer service to ensure the highest quality of service as established by the City of Page.
  • Provides prompt, courteous and direct assistance to all patrons with basic information regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services.
  • Ensures the library's collections include relevant print and digital resources aimed at the specific interests and needs of the community's teens.
  • Curates content, including digital resources and special collections, for and with teen patrons, based on teen needs and interests.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates specific programs and activities (both in the library and in the community) for young adults based on their needs and interests.
  • As opportunities arise, educate the public about the value of public libraries and the profession. Creatively promote library services and the profession.
  • Coordinates daily activities of volunteers assigned to teen services.
  • Takes a leadership role in developing, implementing and evaluating the overall teen services program.
  • Develops, maintains, and weeds young adult collections, including books, videos, CDs and other special materials.
  • Actively promote library services, materials, and programs to patrons.
  • Conducts tours and develops informational materials describing services and programs.
  • Demonstrate good stewardship of physical and virtual spaces by preparing displays, continually maintaining interactive areas, and producing and updating content for the library’s web presence, as assigned.
  • Confers with individuals, teachers, and community groups to assist in developing programs to encourage and improve library usage.
  • Stays abreast of current trends in information services through reading professional literature and attending professional conferences.
  • Takes responsibility for enforcing library policies.
  • Assists with the supervision of children and teen services.
  • Represents the library to other community agencies serving children.
  • Performs public service duties as scheduled, assisting patrons with automated databases and other equipment as needed.
  • Assists in the children's department
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High School; and
  • One (1) year of children recreation experience preferred;

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Valid State driver’s license preferred.
  • Maintain or obtain First Aid and CPR certification preferred

Special Requirements:

  • None.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to motivate children and maintain a positive atmosphere, and if necessary, use positive disciplinary techniques.
  • Skill in data collection and analyzing, word processing and preparation of reports and programs.
  • Skill in First Aid and CPR.
  • Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically
  • Ability to follow simple oral directions
  • Ability to interact with others
  • Ability to follow standard office environment safety requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The following physical abilities are required: climbing, fingering, handling, hearing, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, and visual acuity.
